ROSKILL TOGETHER HISTORY
Our Journey with Puketāpapa
2011
Community Foundations
Roskill Together began as part of the Department of Internal Affairs Community Led Development Pilot programme. Through this central government programme, we started building connections and understanding local community needs and aspirations.
2016
Pilot Programme Conclusion
After five years of dedicated community work, we demonstrated the power of grassroots development. Our pilot programme showed the value of community engagement and importance of community led change.
2017
Charitable Trust Established
We officially registered as an independent charitable trust, solidifying our commitment to community-led development in Puketāpapa. This new beginning allowed us to operate as an independent organisation in the community. Successful grant applications since 2017 have supported us to continue our work in Puketāpapa.
2017
Roskill Decides
The Roskill Decides project was the first time in Aotearoa New Zealand that the spending of public money (local and central government funding) was decided by local people. This process, which is known as participatory grant-making, gave the people of Puketāpapa the power to decide which projects of community benefit got funding.
2020
Community Led Development in COVID
In these exceptional times we continued our mahi online, walking a different path until we all able to connect as a community again. During this time we advocated to central government for the protection of and continued funding support for non-profit and charitable organisations that are sustained by philanthropic grants. We also developed a database of support services, to support our community. Other community led development organisation, including one in Georgia USA, replicated this tool for their communities.
2024
Community Led Flood Recovery
Community Led Flood Recovery - Significant parts of Puketāpapa (Wesley and Roskill) were badly affected by the Auckland Anniversary and Cyclone Gabriel floods of 2023. We have been supporting and hold the funding for community-led flood recovery work, to help our community build back better together.
We love hearing from people and supporters in our community. Whether you’d like to get involved, share an idea, or just say kia ora. Our team would love to hear from you.
